Environmental Awareness

I've read a lot about the grand doyenne of flower arranging, the pioneer that was Constance Spry (1886 - 1960).

For so long we have used floral foam to keep flowers fresh but this was not around in Constance's time.  She used chicken wire to place the flowers where she wanted them, creating an elegant natural style.  You should not scrunch the chicken wire too tight as you cannot pass the stems though to the water.

She wrote many books for the home, seasons and church floral design as well as cook books.  I do love the natural look she achieved.

With the focus on a less disposable society her style is back in fashion in a big way and there are several courses to teach  her ethos once again!  Some of which I will be trying out this year and next.
